There’s a fire in my heart!

If you’re thinking about Gateway Ministry School, just do it! It will change your life! God will uncover areas that you will need to work on and it will be hard, but with God’s help you’ll learn so much and grow so much.

In April I felt the call of God to go to bible college but I didn’t really know what that would look like.  I was working as a sales manager in retail and explored some bible college options but nothing seemed like the right fit.  I then spoke with Christine, a pastor at Gateway who had just completed bible college and asked lots of questions.  It was the passion in her eyes when she encouraged me to just do it and it would change my life, that I knew I had to pursue this.

When Gateway Ministry School was launched I was so excited!  My husband and I have trusted God to provide for us financially so I could study full time and we’ve seen His provision in many different ways.  God has definitely called me to be in this place at this time.  I know I’m meant to continue studying to complete my Bachelor’s Degree, keep serving God in the church and…beyond that…I’m not sure…but I know I can trust in the One who holds my future and that’s incredibly exciting! There’s a fire in my heart!

Better clarity of my call to ministry.

Gateway Ministry School has, through a combination of exploring both the theory and practical aspects of a variety of ministry areas, given me better clarity of my call to ministry.

I began Gateway Ministry School because I wanted to deepen my theological learning and sensed God was calling me to use that somehow, but I wasn’t sure how. Very quickly I realised I had a passion and a heart for ministering to the incarcerated. As my studies continued I also felt drawn towards leading as a Pastor – something I was adamant at the beginning of my studies that I would never be called to!

I have received affirmation after affirmation through others that this is the direction God has over my life and it has brought excitement and a desire to delve deep into my study as I have that ever-increasing bright light at the end of the tunnel.

When I was thinking whether I really wanted to study at bible college my pastor, who I sought some wisdom and clarity from surrounding my indecisiveness, said, ‘Just go and do a couple of subjects each semester for a year and see where God leads you. At the end of the day, what’s the worst that will happen? You’ll learn more about God – It’s a win win.’  My advice would be the same – what’s the worst that could happen by trying Gateway Ministry School?

FAQs

Where is Gateway Ministry School (GMS)?

Gateway Ministry School is a ministry of Gateway Baptist Church in Brisbane.  GMS is located at Gateway’s Mackenzie campus, 1052 Mt Gravatt-Capalaba Road, Mackenzie, Queensland.

What’s the difference between Accredited Courses and Ministry Streams?

Accredited Courses will give you a qualification with Malyon College, which is fully accredited with Australian College of Theology (ACT).  You can complete your Accredited Course through either one year full time study or part time study over a number of years.  Accredited Courses require a significant commitment of time to complete.

Ministry Streams non-accredited courses are designed to help our Gateway people get further equipped to follow God’s call into serving and leading at Gateway.  The time commitment required for Ministry Streams is significantly less than Accredited Courses.

How do I know which Accredited Course to choose?

All three Accredited Courses complete the same subjects, however the level of assessment required for these subjects is determined by the level of qualification you choose.  You may also need to consider the minimum academic entry requirements for each course:

  • Diploma of Christian Studies – Year 12 or equivalent, or a special entrance assessment
  • Diploma of Ministry – Year 12 with minimum OP of 15, or ATAR of 65, or Certificate 3, or a special entrance examination
  • Graduate Diploma of Divinity – Previous undergraduate non-theological degree

What practical ministry opportunities will be available in Ministry Streams?

Ministry Streams students will have the opportunity to learn from and work alongside ministry leaders and implement ongoing ministry activities or special projects.  You will be given feedback to help develop and sharpen your ministry skills and gifts.  Opportunities will depend on your chosen ministry area.

Do I have to attend Gateway to apply?

Accredited Courses are open to both people attending Gateway Baptist Church and people attending other churches.

Students from other churches are encouraged to complete the ministry placement component of the course in their own church, however they can complete their ministry placement at Gateway with the permission of their pastor.

Ministry Streams are only open to people who attend Gateway.

Can I study on-line?

Accredited Course content is delivered online, however educational support and practical ministry placements are facilitated and delivered in person by GMS staff and Gateway’s ministry leaders through the year.  Students need to be available to attend GMS during the week, and are encouraged to attend Gateway or their own church for Sunday services.

Ministry Streams do not offer any on-line learning component.

Can I study part-time?

Accredited Courses can be studied part-time.  Students can choose from subjects offered to full-time students in each semester.

How many days a week will I be at GMS?

Accredited Course students will need to be at Gateway Mackenzie or another Gateway campus at least two days a week, Tuesday and Thursday.  Once students start Ministry Placements they will need to be available at other times depending on the activities of their ministry area.

Ministry Streams will be delivered during Term 2 (April-June) usually over 4 x 2 hour evening sessions.  In Term 3 Ministry Streams students will undertake practical ministry opportunities and time required to complete this component of the Ministry Streams course will depend on the ministry area and the activities students will be involved in.

What are the dates for Accredited Courses?

Accredited Courses are delivered over two semesters (four terms) in a calendar year.

  • Orientation: 6-7 February 2018
  • Semester One: 13 February – 8 June 2018 (including 13 weeks of class time, 2 weeks Easter Break aligning with school holidays, 2 weeks for study break)
