Showing people the tangible love of Jesus

For many refugees and migrants, coming to Australia is terrifying and exhilarating at the same time. They have left behind their friends, family and everything they knew, and then need to build their life from scratch.

After the difficult journey to get to Australia, the real challenge begins: setting up a new life.

Navigating government agencies, figuring out who can help you, finding doctors, school for the kids, somewhere to live and so much more—all when they don’t know anybody or the language well.

Neighbours is a Gateway ministry that supports refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants. We go out to them—where they live and work—to show they are valuable, we see them and they are loved by God.

We also offer practical help where we can.

Our Neighbours van is stocked with groceries and clothes that we drive out to the community. People receive the personal and household essentials they need, and build friendships with our volunteers who have started the journey of pointing them to Jesus.

We’re working with other organisations and government agencies to get the word out to the many people who need a hand as they begin their new life.

All of us are called to bring the life-changing message of Jesus to the people around us, and Neighbours has started to bring Gateway’s care ministries out onto the streets of south-east Queensland.

We want to be the tangible hands and feet of Jesus to the neighbours around us—and we’re always looking for more people to join us.
