12-month experience

  • Complete GMS application form and:
    • acknowledge your agreement with Gateway’s Statement of Faith
    • acknowledge you have read the GMS Code of Conduct
    • provide contact details for a pastoral reference
    • provide contact details for two referees
    • include copy of photo ID
    • list your options for practical ministry placement.
  • Attend an interview

 

Accredited study through Malyon

  • OP of 15 or ATAR of 65 or better, Or an AQF level 5 Diploma or higher
    • Or you may be required to undertake an Academic Entrance Test if the above is not applicable
    • Or provide any academic transcripts from previously completed study
  • Semester 1 applications open 1 September 2022
  • Semester 1 applications close 23 January 2023
  • Orientation Day – 9 February
  • Semester 1: 16 February – 8 June (includes mid-semester break)
  • Semester 2 applications open 15 May
  • Semester 2 applications close 12 June

Where is Gateway Ministry School?

Gateway Ministry School is a ministry of Gateway Baptist Church in Brisbane.  GMS is located at Gateway’s Mackenzie campus, 1052 Mt Gravatt-Capalaba Road, Mackenzie, Queensland.

Do I have to study through Malyon Theological College to be part of GMS?

No—you can apply to complete GMS without undertaking accredited units with Malyon.

Do I have to attend Gateway to apply?

If you attend another church, GMS will consult with your pastor about your interest in participating in GMS. You will complete your academic study units enrolled as an ‘On Demand’ student of Malyon Theological College. You will also participate in the GMS Experience, all GMS students are required to attend 75% of GMS classes. You can complete your ministry placement at your church, or Gateway (with the permission of your pastor.)

Is the GMS program available online?

Parts of the GMS program are available online for students who may not be able to engage in person.  This can be arranged in consultation with the GMS Director.

How many days a week will I be at GMS?

GMS provides group and individual input from ministry leaders on Thursdays from 9am – 12:30pm and an optional every second Tuesday of the month from 9:00am – 10:30am during the semester.

Students are required to attend 75% of all GMS programs. When students are completing their Practical Ministry Field Education unit they will need to be available at other times depending on the activities of their ministry area. Have a look at the code of conduct for more information.
