ACCREDITED LEARNING PROGRAMS

Internship Program

This is an academic pathway to your Undergraduate Certificates, Diploma or Graduate Diploma. Spend a year in our immersion program, interact with accredited courses and materials online and undertake a practical ministry placement within a gateway ministry team.

Internship Residency

Continue to pursue your calling. This is for graduates of the GMS internship program who are pursuing vocational ministry while progressing onto a Bachelor or Masters degree.

 

GMS Immersion Experience – $1500 per year (this fee is for full-time and part-time students and payable to Gateway, Fee-Help is not available). Optional local missions experience specifically designed for GMS is an additional $850-$1000

PLUS

Malyon Theological College Fee:

  • Undergraduate Certificates in Ministry/Theology – approx. $2300 per unit plus textbooks cost
  • HE Diploma of Ministry – approx.. $2300 per unit plus textbook costs
  • Graduate Diploma of Arts – approx. $2300 per unit plus textbook costs.
  • Bachelor/Masters – approx.. $2300 per unit plus textbook costs.
  • Fee- help is available for Malyon Theological College students who meet the Australian Government criteria. Visit the Australian Government Study Assist website to find out if you are eligible.
  • Intern Resident can apply for funding towards their learning pathway. Please enquire with GMS Director.

Internship Program

GMS experience

  • Every Wednesday 8.30am-3:00pm during academic semesters
  • Gateway Staff Meeting – Tuesday (fortnightly) 9:00am-10:30am during semesters
  • Chapel, Input from speakers and leaders, interactive workshops
  • Ministry placement on one of our ministry teams.This requires students to be available at other times depending on ministry activities.

Malyon Theological College

  • Undergraduate Certificates, Diploma, Bachelor, Graduate Diploma or Masters with Malyon Theological College
  • Full-time students study 8 units per year
  • Part-time students choose number of units to study per year (minimum of one unit per semester with MTC)
  • Undergraduate Certificates students, 4 units over 6 months F/T or P/T equivalent, up to a limit of 2* years.

Attendance Required

Students are required to attend 75% of the GMS year and complete the immersion Reflection Booklet in order to receive a completion certificate.

Prerequisites

  • Completed Diploma of Ministry or Graduate Diploma of Ministry (or similar)
  • Enrolled to complete Bachelor of Theology/Ministry or Masters of Theology/Arts/Leadership
  • Study to be completed with our Academic partner
  • Workwith one of the ministry teams at Gateway.  Minimum of 16 hours per week (to be negotiated)

NON-ACCREDITED, EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING PROGRAMS

Immersion Program

Grow deeper with God within a strong faith community. Spend one day per week immersing yourself in worship, tailored spiritual and personal formation material while being inspired by speakers as you grow deeper with Jesus.

Community – Nation – World. We are all sent somewhere!  The GPS course is all about helping you to discover your missional calling and equipping you in your journey. Look out for more short courses coming in 2021.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Complete Gateway Ministry School Application Form online Gateway Ministry School Application Form  You can save your partly finished application form and return to complete it later.

2. GMS Interview. We will be in contact with you to discuss your application and make an interview time with you. Interview times will be negotiated by GMS staff and are planned to happen between November 2020 and January 2021.

  • We will contact you to inform you of the outcome of your application to participate in GMS.
  • For Internship and Residency program students, your acceptance to the program is dependent on a successful enrolment with Malyon Theological College.

3. Enrolment with Malyon Theological College. Now the GMS part of your application is complete, you will need to enrol directly with Malyon Theological College through their website. Please tick Gateway Ministry School on your application. 

4. Confirmation from GMS. Once your enrolment with Malyon Theological College is confirmed, you will receive further details from GMS regarding your program.

 

Where is Gateway Ministry School (GMS)?

Gateway Ministry School is a ministry of Gateway Baptist Church in Brisbane.  GMS is located at Gateway’s Mackenzie campus, 1052 Mt Gravatt-Capalaba Road, Mackenzie, Queensland.

 

Do I have to study through Malyon Theological College to be part of GMS? 

No. You can apply to complete the Immersion Program (non-assessed)
Note: GMS students completing the Internship and Residency programs are required to be studying at least one subject per semester through our academic partner, Malyon Theological College.

 

How do I know which level of study to choose? 

GMS students studying the Certificates, Diploma, Bachelors and Graduate Diploma courses through Malyon Theological College will complete mostly the same subjects, however the level of assessment required for these subjects is determined by the level of qualification you choose. You may also need to consider the minimum academic entry requirement for each course.

 

Do I have to attend Gateway to apply?

GMS is open to both people attending Gateway Baptist Church and people attending other churches.

If you attend another church, GMS will consult with your pastor about your interest in participating in GMS. You will complete your academic study units enrolled as an ‘On Demand’ student of Malyon Theological College. You will also participate in the GMS Experience, all GMS students are required to attend 75% of GMS classes. You can complete your ministry placement at your church, or Gateway (with the permission of your pastor.)

 

Can I study and engage online? 

Students enrolling in GMS Internship and Residency programs are enrolling with Malyon Theological College (MTC) as online students completing their academic pathway.
The GMS Internship and Immersion Programs are facilitated and delivered in person throughout the year. Students need to be available to attend GMS for approximately one day during the week and are encouraged to attend Gateway or their own church for Sunday services.

 

Is the GMS program available online?

‘Is the GMS program available online?’ Yes, parts of the GMS program is available online for students who may not be able to engage in person.  This can be arranged in consultation with the GMS Director.

 

Can I study part-time with Malyon Theological College?

Yes, Internship and Residency students can study part-time through Malyon Theological College while attending GMS on Wednesdays. Students can choose from subjects offered to full-time students in each semester.

How many days a week will I be at GMS? 

GMS provides group and individual input from ministry leaders on Wednesdays from 8:30am – 3:00pm and every secondTuesday of every month from 9:00am – 10:30am during the semester. Students will be required to attend 75% of all GMS programs. When students are completing their Practical Ministry Field Education unit they will need to be available at other times depending on the activities of their ministry area.

 

What are the GMS semester dates?

GMS semester dates align closely with Malyon Theological College semester dates.

  • Orientation : 8.30am – 3.00pm, 16 & 17 of February 2021
  • Your weekly Wednesdays will begin on 24 February, 8.30am – 3:00pm
  • Semester One: 8 February – 4 June 2021 (including 13 weeks of class time, and mid-semester break)
  • Semester Two: 12 July – 5 November 2021 (includes 13 weeks of class time, and mid-semester break).

Gateway Ministry School reserves the right to make changes to its programs and students will be notified of changes accordingly.
