Jesus was more than a historical figure—He is the Son of God, who came to earth to show us God’s love and offer us eternal life through His death and resurrection.
The Gospel is the good news that God loves us and offers us a new life in Jesus. Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection form the foundation of this Good News.
By believing in Him, turning away from sin, and following His teachings, we experience forgiveness, peace, and a restored relationship with God.
The life of Jesus
Jesus lived over 2,000 years ago, but His life and teachings continue to impact the world today. He was born in Bethlehem to a young virgin named Mary, in a humble setting that fulfilled ancient prophecies about the coming Messiah—a Saviour sent by God. Jesus grew up in Nazareth and, at the age of 30, began His public ministry, teaching about God's kingdom, healing the sick, and performing miracles that demonstrated God's power and love.
“For in (Jesus) Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.” Colossians 2:9
The message of Jesus
Jesus' message was simple yet profound: God loves you. He taught that God is not distant or indifferent but deeply cares about each of us. He spoke of a kingdom where love, justice, and peace reign—a kingdom that begins in the hearts of those who follow Him. Jesus called people to repent, which means to turn away from sin and towards God, trusting in His grace and forgiveness.
“For this is how God loved the world; He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Jesus' death and resurrection
After around three years of ministry, Jesus was crucified—a brutal form of execution—even though He was innocent. But His death was not the end; it was the fulfilment of God's plan to reconcile humanity to Himself. The Bible teaches that Jesus died to take the penalty for our sins, offering us forgiveness and a restored relationship with God.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
Three days after His death, Jesus rose from the dead. His resurrection is the central moment of the Christian faith. It is the ultimate proof that Jesus is who He claimed to be—the Son of God—and that He has power over sin and death. Because He lives, we have the hope of eternal life.
“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
Following Jesus
When we ask Jesus to forgive our sins and accept Him as our Saviour, we continue to follow His teaching and share His message of love and forgiveness. We learn more about God by reading the Bible and grow closer to Him by praying and worshipping. We regularly gather with other believers in the church community and serve one another and the world around us.
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10
