What sort of king will we choose to live like?

This series looks at moments in the lives of four kings and draws parallels with the way we are tempted to live today. We don’t really think of it this way, but living in the West, many or most of us live like the kings of days gone by in terms of our prosperity, choice, power and privilege. Our culture moulds us to take the position of a king – consume whatever we want, be in control of as much as we can, take what is rightfully ours, and don’t put up with others who bring us down.

‍

Jesus, as King, takes the opposite posture, embracing generosity, service, sacrifice and forgiveness, and teaches us to do the same. What sort of king will we choose to live like?

‍

Contrasted with the stories from Kings are moments in the life of Jesus where His version of kingship shines through: the three temptations after His forty days in the desert, and His final moments as nails were being hammered into His hands and feet.

‍

The day will come when crowns will be laid down at the feet of Jesus as His true kingship is revealed. Today, His followers are invited to lay down their worldly preferences and take up the posture of their true King.
